Updating the PATH Method for Long-Term Success: Introducing the PATHS Method
As the world continues to evolve, so too must the methods we use to create a more inclusive workplace. That’s why we’re proud to announce an updated version of the PATH method: the PATHS method. With the addition of the letter “S,” which stands for “Sustain,” organizations now have a tool to ensure that the positive changes they make in diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives can be sustained and retained over time.
The PATHS method is still built on the same foundation as the PATH method, with four core steps that guide organizations on their D&I journey. But now, with the addition of the “Sustain” step, organizations can take their efforts to the next level and ensure that their progress is not lost.
Plan: Establish clear goals and strategies for advancing D&I in your organization. This may involve conducting a diversity audit, identifying areas of improvement, and setting specific, measurable targets.
Assess: Regularly evaluate your current state of D&I and gather feedback from employees, stakeholders, and other relevant parties. This information can help inform your ongoing efforts and help you to identify areas for improvement.
Take Action: Once you have identified areas for improvement, take meaningful steps to promote inclusivity and address any barriers to justice. This may include implementing employee training programs, changing HR policies, and promoting diverse representation in leadership positions.
Help: Foster a culture of belonging by creating opportunities for all employees to feel valued, supported, and included. Encourage open communication, collaboration, and a sense of community.
Sustain: This new step focuses on retaining the positive changes made in D&I initiatives. This may involve creating clear processes and guidelines, securing buy-in from stakeholders and leadership, and developing a system to measure progress and success.
By following the PATHS method, organizations can create a more inclusive workplace that benefits everyone. Whether you’re just starting your D&I journey or looking to take your efforts to the next level, the PATHS method can help you stay focused, track progress, and achieve meaningful results that are sustained over time.
